08 February 2010
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was killed when she was hit by a car in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Officers said she was hit by a blue BMW 330 saloon car as she crossed Bow Road at the pelican crossing near the junction with Campbell Road around 2.20am.

The London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance attended but the 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision just after 3am.

Next of kin have not been informed and formal identification has yet to take place.

A post mortem examination and inquest is due to open and adjourn at Poplar Coroner's Court tomorrow (Tuesday).

The driver of the BMW stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on police bail until March.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact the collision investigation unit at Chadwell Heath traffic garage on 020 8597 4874.
