Sad day for newspaper industry as education trust folds

THE newspaper industry’s education trust which runs workshops on journalism and page design for schoolkids has closed down after 15 years.

The trust marked its closure at the massive West Ferry printworks on the Isle of Dogs, where the workshops were held three times a day for schools, universities and other organisations.

The trust’s chief executive Anna Pangbourne revealed in May that the charity would close by the end of July.

“We have found it increasingly difficult in the current financial climate to attract funds,” she said. “This makes it no longer viable to operate for the long term future.”

It was a sad moment for the trust, which has played host to 30,000 youngsters who have visited its newsroom in the last 15 years.
