Next ‘bendy’ bus heading out of town is the 38

13 November 2009
THE demise of London's much-criticised 'bendy' bus is gathering speed with its withdrawal this weekend on the 38 route from Victoria to East London.

They are being replaced tomorrow (November 14) with more familiar double-deckers as part of Mayor Boris Johnson's promise to get shot of them.

The Mayor's transport advisor Kulveer Ranger said: "Londoner's voted to boot out bendy buses, so now their numbers are ever decreasing."

The new buses will run every two to four minutes daytime from Victoria to Hackney Central and on weekdays and every five to six minutes in the evenings, with alternate buses going on to Clapton Pond.

The Saturday service is every three-to-four minutes daytime and every six minutes in the evening, while the Sunday run is every five minutes daytime and six minutes evenings.

The 38 is the third route to convert back to double-deckers. The 18 and 149 are to convert by the end of 2010, while the remaining 12, 25, 29, 73, 207, 436 and 453 switch by the end of 2011.
