Pomp and circumstance at the Lord Mayor's Show

THOUSANDS of people gathered in the City of London at the weekend for the annual Lord Mayor's Show, despite the rain.

Kids from Sir John Cass Foundation Primary School paraded behind a float following the golden coach of the 682nd Lord Mayor of London, Nick Anstee on Saturday.

The children, dressed in red, waved flags to raise awareness of drug education charity DARE.

The pupils from the Duke's Place school in Aldgate were among the latest to take part in a tradition dating back to 1215 which sees the new Lord Mayor swear and oath to the Queen in front of the Lord Chief Justice.

Around 6,000 people from all over London took part in the procession extending more than three miles through the City but fireworks planned for the evening had to be cancelled due to high winds.
