Boris joins campaign to make the capital's streets safer

LONDON mayor Boris Johnson has joined the campaign to make the streets of the capital safer for youngsters.

From today the City Hall will join the East London Advertiser office to become a 'safe haven' and provide a refuge for youngsters who may find themselves in danger of a gang fight or knife clash.

Tower Hamlets was one of the first boroughs in London to join the London Citizens' CitySafe Campaign when it was launched in the East End by the East London Communities Organisation (TELCO).

Shops and restaurants in Whitechapel Road, Stepney, Watney Market and East India Dock Road as well as Queen Mary University and the London Muslim Centre have all signed up to the Tower Hamlets City Safe Alliance.

They have agreed to work with the Met Police and Safer Neighbourhood Teams to close their shop if a youngster runs in needing help and report 100 per cent of all crime to the police.
