Rapping robot teaches East End kids how to recycle waste

KIDS are learning about recycling from a 'rapping' robot which has popped into their school in London's East End today.

The robot is part of Tower Hamlets council's campaign to get off the bottom rung of Britain's local authority recycling table.

It has been touring East End schools and turned up this-morning at Bethnal Green's St Elizabeth RC Primary with a model conveyor belt to show the youngsters how material is sorted at the council depot.

Tower Hamlets is celebrating after latest Government figures last week showed it had almost trebled its recycling from the poor seven per cent two years ago when it was bottom of the league table. East End households now manage to recycle 19 per cent of their waste, a 40 per cent increase. It reached almost 26 per cent by the end of September, according to Town Hall sources today.

The rapping robot told the children stories, quizzed them and use theatrical props to highlight the importance of recycling.
