Crime-fighting, reggae-loving CBeebies star Rastamouse is coming to Stratford Circus, with his band Da Easy Crew, in a lively show that promises to delight children and parents.

On Saturday the lovable book, television and now, stage characters will present three performances helping to develop children’s literacy and music.

Rastamouse creator Michael De Souza will start the show with poems and readings about the crew’s adventures.

He said: “Da Easy Crew usually warm up the audience with little rhymes and raps that I have developed over the years

“What we do is try and get the audience involved in the language of Mouseland and the Rastamouse vibes.”

Families can also enrol at the Rocksteady Reggae School for a music workshop before or after the show.

The school has worked with the national curriculum throughout the country, including two Newham schools.

Michael’s idea for Rastamouse came after the birth of his daughter, then collaborating with co-writer Genevieve Webster for the books.

He thinks the character’s uniqueness is its appeal.

He said: “I think that it is different for children. I don’t think there has been a black children’s character sending this positive message.

“Children really love the music, and the singing.

“Also, ‘making a bad ting good’” – when you are young you have to understand what a mistake is and about putting it right.”

Rastamouse’s motto is about rectifying a wrong through mutual respect and understanding rather than punishment.

There are performances at: 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Tickets to the show cost £10 to £12. Call 0844 357 2625 to book.
