The orchestra’s Palm Court Ensemble gave a lunchtime performance as part of the BBC Proms’ Out and About’ summer programme, culminating last week in a 10-hour marathon of free performances at unexpected outdoor venues.

Market visitors got a rare chance to see one of the world’s top orchestras while shopping.

The programme included popular British light classics such as Sir Arthur Sullivan’s Iolanthe Overture, Robert Farnon’s Westminster Waltz and Edward German’s Nell Gwyn Overture. Other pieces included a selection from My Fair Lady.
