Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes, who has been linked with Aston Villa, Fulham, Newcastle, Tottenham West Ham, Everton, Manchester United and Celtic in recent weeks, has been named on Stuart Pearce’s shortlist for Team GB’s London 2012 Olympics campaign.

The 22-year-old scored 40 times for the Terriers last season as they won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs and will find out on July 6 whether he will be a part of the 30th Olympiad.

“Jordan is an amazing ambassador for Huddersfield Town and the football profession, with his great performances on the pitch complemented by his contribution to our community and the town off it,” Huddersfield chief executive Nigel Clibbens told the club’s official website.

“He is a top class individual and thoroughly deserves all the plaudits and success that is coming his way.

“The Football Association has decided not to make an official announcement over the 35-man squad, but has given individual clubs permission to announce their own players.

“Obviously we are tremendously proud of Jordan’s achievements and wanted to publicly congratulate him on his inclusion.”

Pearce must choose his 18-man squad from players under the age of 23 but three over-age players are allowed.

Rhodes spent a spell in west London at Brentford, where his seven goals in 14 games helped the Bees clinch the League Two title in 2008/09.
