Leyton Orient have shown character to bounce back from three straight defeats according to their manager Russell Slade.

The O’s reclaimed top spot in League One with yesterday’s 2-0 victory over Swindon. They have taken seven points from three games after consecutive defeats against Rotherham, Peterborough and Bristol City.

Slade said: “We’ve had a difficult period but we’ve shown our character to come through it.

“The important thing was getting the win and performance. I think we wanted it a little bit more than the opposition.

“We were creating chances all afternoon and we were excellent without the ball.”

Two Lloyd James penalties sent Orient top courtsey of Wolves’ crushing win at Brentford.

The O’s have missed five spot kicks this season, but Slade says the Welsh midfielder was confident as he stepped up.

“Lloyd was grappling with Dags (Chris Dagnall) for the ball and he was obviously very confident,” the manager said.

He insists he did not have one eye on events at Griffin Park as Orient have to take care of what they can ‘control.’

Slade said: “We’ve got to concentrate on each and every performance, it might only be a short stay at the top.

“Before today there were 42 points to play for, now there are 39. We’re going to have to fight for each and every one.

“I didn’t have a preference out of Wolves and Brentford because you can’t control it. Now it will be about Brentford bouncing back, which they haven’t had to do recently.”

The manager added that he is pleased his players have a rare midweek off so they can recharge their batteries before another home game against Colchester on Saturday.
