West Ham have had a ‘derisory’ bid for Barnsley’s Ricardo Vaz Te turned down by the Yorkshire side.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bolster his attacking options as the Upton Park outfit battle for automatic promotion to the Premier League, and is keen to recruit the Portuguese winger who he brought to England as a teenager during his tenure at Bolton Wanderers.

However, Oakwell chief Keith Hill revealed that the Hammers will have to up their bid, if they are to secure the services of Vaz Te, who has top-scored for Barnsley this season with 10 goals, and is out of contract in the summer.

“We have had one bid for him so far,” Hill told the Barnsley Chronicle.

“It was from West Ham and was derisory when you consider the amount paid for other players who are out of contract in the summer like Wes Morgan, who has apparently joined Leicester from Nottingham Forest for £1million.

“I think it is highly unlikely that Ricardo will stay with us after his contract runs out at the end of the season.

“He is right to consider his options and his fantastic performances this season have opened up opportunities for him. He is probably going to move on either in the summer or in this transfer window.”
