London Mayor Boris Johnson said the Prince and his fiance Kate Middleton could always come to his offices if they want a venue.

Speaking to The Docklands just minutes after the royal engagement announcement was made, Mayor Johnson expressed his delight at the news - and said he could always pull a few strings.

“Let me tell you, if they want a cut-price deal with a central London venue with a view of London landmarks, the ideal place would be City Hall,” he said.

“I’m not saying the wedding should be cut-price or bargain but a cost-effective wedding in keeping with our cost-effective times!”

He added: “I’m very pleased for the pair of them and wish them every possible success and happiness. It is something else to look forward to. I think everybody is pleased and in a weird way it cheers everybody up.”

Clarence House has confirmed the wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011 in London, with further details to be released in due course.
