East London Painting Prize winner Nathan Eastwood has won £10,000 and solo show at the Nunnery Gallery, Bow, this year after his work was selected from more than 300 submissions by a panel of curators and artists.

Originally from Scotland but now living and working in Newham, the 41-year-old’s winning entry was a black and white painting of an old man in a café entitled Nico’s Cafe, based on a café just around the corner from his studio in Bethnal Green.

It was created using enamel paint on board and a grey palette.

Claire Gevaux, head of creative programmes at the London Legacy List, said: “We are delighted that Nathan, with his representation of everyday life in east London, has been awarded this prize.”

The prize was created by Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park charity The London Legacy List in association with the Goldhill Family, Zabludowicz Collection and Bow Arts.
