A therapy gym struggling to keep going wants volunteers to join next month’s Victoria Park fun run in east London to mark its 10th anniversary.

The Ability Bow gymnasium housed in a local parish church has just about managed to keep going since 2006 by raising funds after its NHS funds were gradually stopped over the years.

Yet it still gets 25 referrals a month from GPs, physiotherapists and health or social care services.

Ability Bow even came close to closing in 2008 before Tower Hamlets council came to the rescue at Christmas that year with an emergency grant.

The gym which opened in 2006 currently treats 450 people with injuries, disabilities or long-term conditions at its specially-adapted gym at St Paul’s parish church in St Stephen’s Road, Old Ford, near the Roman Road Market.

It has raised an astonishing £2.3 million supported 3,650 people with disabilities in its 10 years, providing a unique service teaching them how to exercise independently and making visible progression in heath and in confidence.

Wellwishers are now being asked to register online for the fun run in Vicky Park on October 30 to walk, run, jog or even push a wheelchair or pram around the 5k circuit track.
