Neville Gabie reinterpretation of French masterpiece

An artist has re-interpreted a radical French masterpiece by replacing urban

bathers with workers at the Olympic Park.

Neville Gabie, the park’s artist in residence, has created his own version of Georges Seurat’s post-impressionist painting ‘Bathers at Asnieres.’

The 1883-4 painting was one of the first to celebrate working class people relaxing in their industrial landscape.

In his photographic version Gabie has landscape gardeners, engineers, designers and security staff relaxing and working along the park’s riverbank.

Gabie’s version called Freeze Frame forms part of the ODA’s Art in the Park programme and will be exhibited at the park’s View Tube until March 18.
