A fire at Brodlove Lane in Wapping, almost equidistant from Shadwell and Limehouse DLR stations, sent smoke across the capital yesterday afternoon.

The blaze was in a builders’ yard, and the billowing plumes could be seen for miles.

People were advised to avoid the area as London Fire Brigade sent 15 fire engines and almost 100 firefighters to the scene.

The emergency services received over 30 emergency calls about the blaze.
