Rail bosses at Fenchurch Street have hit a three-year record for trains running on time, it emerged today.

The c2c service on the Southend-Shoebruryness run hit 98.5 per cent punctuality through the East London and Essex commuter belt in the four weeks to September 9.

It was well above the national average of 91.2pc, according to today’s Network Rail statistics—the best performance recorded by any train operator since September, 2012.

The company was also named Passenger Operator of the Year at the National Rail Awards last month, when judges cited improvements like free wifi and cheap advance tickets as well as train punctuality.
