The company that owns the Cau Argentine restaurant opened at Commodity Quay in the marina complex in 2015 has now gone into administration.

Accountants at Deloitte’s insolvency department have been appointed to run the three companies in the restaurant chain—CAU Restaurant, Gaucho Grill and Gioma UK.

They confirmed the 31 redundancies to the East London Advertiser today.

The group opened in the marina by the Tower of London with high hopes in the spring of 2015. It attracted a large following as London’s first Cau restaurant, inspired by Latin American Buenos Aires culture with a menu of steak, burgers and sharing platters.

The group’s marketing director Charley Springall said at the time: “St Katharine’s is a buzzing environment and a good space for us to locate.”

The restaurant chain took a long-lease for a 5,600sq ft unit at the revamped Commodity Quay, but went into receivership on Thursday with its 10 outlets in Britain and one in Amsterdam.
