The images have been taken from CCTV footage from a street camera following the attack four months ago outside a house in Dane Place, off Roman Road.

A 21-year-old delivery driver from a takeaway had a corrosive substance sprayed in his face at 6.20pm on May 2.

He was in his car when the attacker approached on a bike, demanding cash, before being squirted in the face with a chemical that smelt of ammonia.

The youth got in through the passenger’s door as the driver tried wiping the corrosive substance from his face.

He cycled off as the driver ran into the takeaway and called police, before being taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital.

“This was a horrible assault on a takeaway delivery driver in the early evening,” Det Con Paul Clare, from Tower Hamlets CID, said. “Witnesses were in the area who saw the assault and we’re asking them to come forward.”

The suspect is described as a white youth who was wearing a black hooded top, blue jeans, black shoes and a grey-green snood, riding a black hybrid cycle.

Witnesses or anyone with information are being urged to contact Tower Hamlets CID dialling 101, tweeting @MetCC or anonymously calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 (crimestoppers-uk.org).
