Police are appealing for information after firefighters were attacked with fireworks as they attended an emergency call on Bonfire Night.
Fire crews had been called to tackle an alight bin in Wellesley Street, Stepney, at 9.41pm on Sunday when the incident occurred.
One firefighter was injured in the attack, which is currently being investigated by officers from Tower Hamlets CID.
“It is unacceptable that firefighters were targeted with fireworks while responding to an emergency 999 call,” said London Fire Brigade director of operations Tom George.
“We will not tolerate attacks on firefighters and we will be working with our colleagues at the Metropolitan Police Service to identify those responsible.”
Police ask anyone with information on the identity of those who set the fires or attacked the emergency crews to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
