Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack at Hackney Wick when a homeless man was shot three times at Daubeney Fields park.

The 34-year-old had been at a children’s Saturday birthday barbecue on July 15 which went on after midnight and was hit from behind before the gunman ran off, leaving him with injuries to his arm, hip and leg.

He managed to make his way out of the park to the Kingsmead housing estate where he raise the alarm and was later taken by ambulance to hospital and detained for two weeks.

“This was a deplorable shooting at a children’s barbecue,” Det Con Shaun Pascal said. “It left the victim with serious injuries with long-term effects that will haunt him for years.”

Detectives want to speak to anyone at the barbecue on July 15 who may have seen the shooting to “bring those responsible to justice”.

A 31-year-old suspect arrested July 28 on “suspicion of attempted murder” has since been released under investigation.

The £10,000 reward is being offered by the Met for information leading to a conviction or the recovery of the gun.

Witnesses or anyone with information is being urged to call the Met’s Trident Command on 020-8217 7382, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
