A Poplar man who slashed his victim with a carpet knife, narrowly missing his jugular vein, has been jailed for eight years.

Jeremy Muda, 31, attacked the 28-year-old across the face, neck and upper arm as he left a block of flats on the Isle of Dogs on October 30.

His victim underwent surgery to repair lacerations to his neck, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Muda, of Cygnet House North, Chrisp Street, handed himself in to police and was charged the following day.

He was given the prison sentence along with a restraining order concerning the victim yesterday, having been found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent last month.

“This sentence reflects how seriously the police and the courts take offences of this kind and I hope it brings a feeling of justice for the victim,” said Det Con Gemma Thomas of Tower Hamlets CID.
