Some police in Tower Hamlets will be deployed on “public order aid” duties today following the terrorist attack in Westminster.

Four people have been confirmed dead in the attack on Westminster Bridge and Parliament according to the latest figures.

They include the killer, Pc Keith Palmer and two members of the public – a woman in her mid 40s and a man in his mid 50s.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Mark Rowley said 29 people had been treated in hospital and seven remain in a critical condition.

He said: “As people are out and about on the streets of the capital this morning they will see more police officers on duty - armed and unarmed - and a mix of British Transport Police and the City of London.

“We have cancelled some leave and increased some duty hours and are working to make sure that we can out in force to reassure the public.

Police from Tower Hamlets tweeted earlier: “Good morning Tower Hamlets. After yesterday’s tragic events we are split today. Some are on public order aid others on shift”.

Seven people have been arrested following raids in London, Birmingham and elsewhere, police also confirmed.
