Two young men taken to hospital after an ‘acid attack’ in Poplar High Street.

Police were called to the busy road, near the junction with Bazely Street, at 10.24pm yesterday to reports of a “noxious substance” being sprayed.

Officers, ambulance crews and the fire brigade attended and found two victims - males aged 17 and 20 - who were taken to an east London hospital.

The 20-year-old suffered minor injuries to his eyes while the teenager was unhurt.

Officers from Tower Hamlets CID are hunting the alleged attacker, described as a white man aged between 19 and 25 with short blond hair.

The suspect reportedly wore a grey cap and fled the scene in a red car in the direction of Cotton Street.

Enquiries continue with no arrests made.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
