A woman has been arrested on suspicion of torture.

The 51-year-old was apprehended at an address in east London shortly after 7am this morning.

The allegations relate to atrocities that occurred during the civil war in Liberia between 1989 and 1993.

Searches are being carried out at two addresses – one in east London and the other in central London - in relation to this investigation.

The woman is being held in police custody as enquiries continue.
