Crime is the top concern of people living in the borough, a survey has revealed.

In total 41 per cent of residents surveyed said crime was their greatest fear. Not being able to afford a home was a worry for 37pc, according to an annual study commissioned by Tower Hamlets Council.

Nearly nine in ten residents surveyed felt people of different backgrounds got on well together with 79pc feeling the borough is a very or fairly satisfying place to live.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said: “We are one of the most diverse boroughs in the country so it is really pleasing to see that the vast majority of people say they are happy to live in Tower Hamlets.”

He added that as with other inner city boroughs there were challenges as well.

A total of 1,100 people from a range of backgrounds were interviewed between January and March
