Kids have been graduating in a special university ceremony—and they’re only five years old.

They got a taste of university life when they donned caps and gowns for their very own graduation.

The pupils from Bethnal Green’s St Matthias Primary were invited to Glasgow Caledonian University’s London campus in Spitalfields to celebrate ‘graduating’ from Reception Year to Year 1 when they return to school soon.

Their proud parents were invited along to the campus to watch the ceremony staged by the university’s London Club.

The pupils also had ‘taster’ sessions in science where they dissected owl pellets and in fashion where they created their own sock designs, just to see what university life could be like when they get older.

One little boy called Qaasim couldn’t wait to try on his little mortar board cap for his ‘graduation’.

His mum Ruby said: “It was very touching and gave us the idea that we could have a similar feeling in the future, watching our children graduating for real.”

The university’s London Club was set up at the Spitalfields campus in 2008 to involve East End schools and families and raise educational aspirations. The mock graduation was the latest in a series of activities with children.
