A school in Tower Hamlets saw improvements in GCSE results across both its boys and girls’ school today for the second year running.

At Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School in Shadwell 67 per cent of girls and 54 per cent of boys gained five A* to C grades for subjects including English and Maths.

For the girls that amounted to an eight per cent increase on last year while for the boys it was an eight per cent improvement from two years ago.

Outstanding individual performances among the girls came from Fatoumata Barry, who scored ten A* and A grades, while Chisom Kate Nwokorrie, Vanessa Riscado and Anima Sutradhar each gained nie A* and As.

For the boys, Steven Duah-Bonsu and Omar Mukhtar both gained eight A* and A grades, while Jonathan Yip achieved five A* and As.

Some 20 per cent of the school’s grades are A* or As —with 10 per cent of students gaining five or more A* and A grades.

Executive Principal Jackie Johnson said: “These results confirm for the second year the consistently high achievement of our students and expertise of our excellent teaching staff.”
