Tower Hamlets Council

Pupils across Tower Hamlets are tucking into healthier school dinners following a revision to the menu.

The council’s catering service, which serves approximately 30,000 pupils at 87 schools, will now provide food with less sugar and more vegetables.

It comes after members of the council’s school meal working group spent two months visiting the borough’s primary and secondary schools to assess how the food could be improved.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs visited Whitechapel’s Kobi Nazrul Primary School to test out the new offering.

He said: “I’m pleased to see these new menus rolled out to schools, in keeping with our pledge to reduce sugar and improve healthy options.

“This will ensure children are well nourished throughout the day, making a positive impact on their overall wellbeing, ability to focus and provide a foundation to live healthier lives.”
