A volunteering group in Bow Road which tackles food poverty, food waste and isolation, is looking for helpers.

Food Cycle provides free, three-course meals to people from the surrounding areas using surplus food donated from nearby suppliers.

There are 35 sites across the country, with 10 in London.

Kati Martin helps out at the Bow Road branch with her mum Mary and sister Becky. She moved to Bethnal Green from Manchester 20 years ago.

She said: “We love it here. We’re overwhelmed by how friendly and welcoming everyone is. You can’t walk down Roman Road without bumping into someone you know.

“That’s why we wanted to volunteer with FoodCycle. We wanted to help support our community, providing warm meals for those who struggle to make ends meet, or those looking for some company each week.

“We’re a close-knit family, but other people might not have friends and family living nearby, so it’s great to be able to bring people together through some tasty food.”

The group meets on Fridays at 7pm at the Bow Road Methodist Church. To volunteer, visit volunteer.foodcycle.org.uk.
