A SEX attacker caught red handed by passers-by has been jailed and faces deportation.

Adelani Akamo struck a 33-year-old woman jogger with a large piece of wood on the back of the head in East London's Hackney Marshes and dragged her into bushes.

She tried to fight him off as he repeatedly punched her in the face.

But her screams were heard by passers-by who ran to her rescue and detained Akamo till police arrived.

Akamo, a 23-yerar-old from Weymouth Terrace in Shoreditch, admitted September's attack when he appeared at Snaresbrook Crown court in February.

He was sentenced yesterday (Tues) to four years for the sexual assault and seven years for GBH, to run together.

Det Con Jason Shallis, from the Met's East London Sapphire squad based at Limehouse, said after the hearing: "The woman was subjected to a violent, terrifying attack. The sentence reflects the severity of Akamo's actions."

Akamo has been recommended for deportation when he finishes his seven years inside. A charge of attempted rape is to lie on file.
