THE battle was on in the park as dogs fought for their honour in the Big Annual Event for East London's canine population.

The mutts turned up with their owners to Victoria Park for the Tower Hamlets annual Dog Show.

Pooches took pride in the contest to be named 'Best Dressed', or to show they had the 'Waggiest Tale.' There was also the 'Best Biscuit Catcher.'

The emphasis was on teaching the humans how to have fun with their Fido.

But it was no laughing matter for the contestants as the serious business of competing kept their eyes on the prizes.

Those who didn't manage to win a rosette went away with the consolation prize of a free worming tablet!

They also got an engraved ID tag from a veterinary service.

The show was organised on Sunday (July 6) by the East End's animal wardens to raise awareness about responsible dog ownership and the importance of owners having their pets fitted with identity microchip.

The wardens are staging another extravaganza for East London's canines this coming Sunday (July 13) at Mile End Park, with even more opportunities for local hounds to show off their good looks and skills.

Owners can register their pets from midday for competitions like 'Best Canine Karaoke' and the best dog dressed as a pop star.

The show is near the park entrance at Haverfield Road, Mile End, with judging starting at 2pm.
