WITH five results yet to come in Labour are likely to retain their control on Tower Hamlets council whilst Galloway's Respect party face the possibility of losing any presence on the council - yet winning a Yes vote for an elected mayor.

Labour's leader Lutfur Rahman kept his seat in Spitalfields and Banglatown and there was some cheer for Tory parliamentary hopeful Tim Archer who missed out on becoming MP for Poplar and Limehouse. He was however re-elected to his council seat in Blackwall and Cubitt Town.

Olympics scrutiner Zara Davis won a seat in Millwall and could be the youngest councillor.

Lib Dem leader Stephanie Eaton could be the sole of her party, whilst former MP George Galloway's Westminster adviser Kevin Ovenden failed to win a seat on Millwall for Respect.

The Respect party however could enjoy some good news - it is widely believed by political insiders that voters have said Yes to a directly elected mayor in Tower Hamlets.
