LEE Hurst's comedy club in London's East End could soon be bulldozed to make way for a hotel.
The Travelodge group wants to build a seven-storey hotel with 131 rooms on the site of his FymFyg Bar in Bethnal Green, previously known as the Backyard club.
It is putting in a bid to Tower Hamlets council for redevelopment, but would include a new venue for Hurst's club on the ground floor, beneath the hotel reception.
The former TV panellist on They Think It's All Over nearly ran for Mayor of London in 2004 in protest at previous attempts to knock down his converted warehouse in Cambridge Heath Road.
Now the plans include a new home for the club, with a 'shop front' to attract passing punters, Lee has backed an application submitted to the local authority.
The club, which can pack an audience of 300, will have to close for a year if it gets the green light.
