A 20-year-old man this morning denied killing a schoolboy in Bethnal Green.

Georgie Phillips, of Pitfield Street, Islington, is accused of murdering 15-year-old Joel Adesina, who was stabbed to death in Padbury Court, off Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green, on December 5 2014.

Phillips entered his plea at the Old Bailey before Judge Paul Worsley QC remanded him in custody.

He will next appear at a hearing on April 7, with a provisional trial date set for June 1.

Police and paramedics were called to Bethnal Green Road, near Padbury Court, at about 11pm on 5 December last year.

Keen footballer Joel, from Dagenham, was found suffering from serious stab wounds to the abdomen and died in hospital three hours later at 2.12am on December 6.

A postmortem examination found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the liver.
