TODDLERS got on with the serious business of having fun while their mums and dads were being given tips about child safety in the home.

Safety professionals from the Child Accident Prevention Trust turned up at the One O'Clock club on Stepney's huge Ocean inner city housing estate, in London's East End, to advise parents as part of its Safety Week campaign.

Meanwhile, the youngsters enjoyed face painting and a bouncy castle, met firefighters and sat at the wheel of a fire engine.

There were nearly 1,500 children under five admitted to hospital following accidents in the home in London alone between 2006 and 2007, the trust points out, including 1,000 injured in falls, 132 from burns or scalds and even 255 from poisoning.
