The demolition of 1960s high rise tower block Tweed House was completed last week.
The final few bricks were crushed by Poplar residents who had gathered at the estate in Teviot Street ready to make way for a new development on the site.
Housing association Poplar Harca is overseeing the project, which it says will bring 115 new homes to the area.
Poplar Harca’s chief executive Steve Stride said: “Tweed House was sadly well known for all the wrong reasons.
“We know our community has been keen to see the building go for some time. Our new development will bring homes that people can feel to proud to live in.”
