THERE will be reduced opening hours at the East End's archive as staff prepare for major improvement work.

Work is due to start on the Grade II listed building at Bancroft Road, Mile End, in August and the library is expected to reopen at the end of September.

There will be reduced opening hours for researchers and family historians from Monday June 14.

The library will be shut on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the run up to the building work and will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm.

The Advertiser joined campaigners fighting to keep the archives in its present home which Tower Hamlets council wanted to sell. Since then the council has decided to improve the facilities.
