Families fighting to stop a 45ft-tall sewer ventilation shaft on the riverfront a mile from Tower Bridge as part of London’s “super sewer” are meeting Thames Water officials at a public meeting thonight (Friday)– a month before tunnelling is due to begin on the first section of the scheme.

The utility company, which is planning a 17-mile long tunnel under the Thames to relieve London’s sewage overflow crisis, has agreed to attend the meeting at St Peter’s Primary School in Wapping at 7pm, organised by campaigners trying to stop Shadwell’s King Edward Memorial Park being turned into a seven-year construction site and being left with a permanent sewer shaft.
