HUNDREDS of flowers and messages of love have been left at the side of the road where a teenager died at the weekend.

The extraordinary response came after Tom Spiteri was killed on Saturday afternoon after coming off his motorbike close to his Isle of Dogs home.

A Facebook tribute site already has more than 1,800 members, with hundreds of them leaving messages to describe their shock at the loss of the 19-year-old.

By Monday afternoon, a long line of flowers, candles and pictures were on Westferry Road opposite Burrell’s Wharf, with a regular procession of local people stopping to pay their respects.

Tom, a dance music fan and former pupil at George Green’s School on the Island, died when his motorbike was in collision with a car around 4.30pm.

Witnesses attempted to give resuscitation and the London Ambulance Service also attended but Tom was pronounced dead at the scene.
