COMMUNITY leaders in Wapping are thinking about setting up their own council to have more of a say.

They are considering forming a parish council in Wapping which would mean they would have to be consulted by Tower Hamlets issues such as planning.

Tower Hamlets would also have to give a parish council cash, or a precept.

Liberal democrat activist Geoff Juden said: "Authority for the designated area would be in the hands of the local parish council, therefore accountability would be brought to the local people."

Voters in the area would have to vote for a parish council for the scheme to go ahead.
