A brand new and unique running event is coming to London next month.
On Wednesday 9 May, Lee Valley Athletics Centre will host The London 5K Fest – a unique race complete with a festival atmosphere, a live DJ and delicious BBQ food.
Entries are now open for this inaugural event which will be located on the centre’s state-of-the-art 400m outside track.
Aimed at runners of all abilities, this 5K run with a difference allows entrants to compete to the beat of a live DJ who will be pumping out a motivational sound track as the sun sets.
After completing 12.5 laps of the very same track used during the 2014 Invictus Games, competitors can refuel with some delicious authentic Caribbean cuisine and BBQ food from Jackies Love Kitchen.
The event is also great fun for spectators, who can get up close to the action for free and enjoy the festival atmosphere as they cheer on their loved ones from the ‘finish line marquee’ located on the track itself.
Mick Bond, General Manager at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, said: “We’re very excited to be bringing this brand new event toLondon. There will be a fantastic atmosphere on the night, with family friendly activities, music and food for all to enjoy!
“Each race is graded to ensure that individuals can race with competitors of a similar ability – making the event perfect for runners just starting out or seasoned professionals looking for a new PB!”
On the same evening, The British Milers Club is launching a new Bannister Mile Series in memory of Sir Roger Bannister, who died last month aged 88.
The 2018 series will feature men’s and women’s ‘City Mile’ races just three days after the anniversary of Bannister running the world’s first sub-four-minute mile.
*Lee Valley Athletics Centre is the largest indoor and outdoor athletics centre in the south of England and offers a wide choice of track and field events.
The elite location hosted the 2014 Invictus Games and was also used as the training ground for gold medalists like Greg Rutherford and Jonnie Peacock before London 2012.
