London Lions return to their Copper Box Arena base to host Sheffield Sharks on Sunday (4pm), looking for a boost in the BBL.

Coach Mariusz Karol saw his men end 2017 in disappointing style with a 76-69 defeat in Glasgow last Friday and then start the new year on a losing note as well with an 82-80 derby reverse at Surrey Scorchers on Monday.

A sell-out crowd at Surrey Sports Park saw the home side build a 32-19 lead in the first quarter as Lions turned the ball over at regular intervals.

Good play from Cory Dixon and Justin Robinson brought the Lions close, before three successive turnovers set the visitors back again.

Eventually Robinson gave the Lions a one-point lead deep in the fourth quarter, and having seen their early 19-point lead evaporate, it looked like Surrey might end up beaten.

But they came back, with Tony Hicks producing a couple of slicing moves to the hoop and a dunk with just two minutes left to give them new belief and late initiative.

Defeat was particularly tough on Lions forward Dixon, who converted 12 from 13 from the field, but the visitors spilled the ball 20 times in a sloppy display.

Lions: Dixon 28, Robinson 25, Isenbarger 10, Guede 7, Peel 4, Ikhinmwin 2, Lanegger 0, Lockhart 0, Roberts 0 James 0.
