After a quiet spell this month, boxing is back at York Hall on November 1, when an intriguing British title top-liner pairs veteran campaigner Junior Witter and challenger Frankie Gavin.

Witter claimed the British welterweight title earlier this year from local boy Colin Lynes, the former European champion, trained at Canning Town’s TKO Gym by father and son duo Jimmy and Mark Tibbs.

Coincidentally, it was the respected Tibbs training partnership who also coached former world champion Gavin when he spent a spell at the TKO last year.

Promoter Frank Warren returns to the Bethnal Green fight spot with the title fight top-liner heading the bill which features some bright local prospects on the undercard.

These include lightweight Billy Morgan and super-flyweight Charlie Hoy, both members of the stable trained by the Tibbs duo and both still unbeaten as pro fighters.

Bouts featuring Ronnie Heffron, Craig Evans, Gary Corcoran and Miles Shinkwin are also on the undercard on the Thursday night promotion at York Hall.

■ Back-again Audley Harrison gets a tough test against unbeaten giant David Price in a clash of former Olympic medallists at Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday – and it looks another ‘last chance’ for the former Repton amateur.

Sydney 2000 gold winner Audley, now past his 40th birthday, surely faces retirement if he loses to Price who brought back bronze from Beijing eight years later.

The former Repton amateur, now living in California, will start as the outsider against Price who will be backed by a large-size Merseyside fan following.

However, Harrison insists he is not here for another payday and will attempt to prove on Saturday night that the Price is not right for the big time.

In a British cruiserweight title clash on the Frank Maloney promotion, screened on BoxNation TV channel, John Lewis Dickinson meets Shane McPhilbin with unbeaten Tony Conquest looking to challenge the winner.

■ A new venue for boxing on Saturday night is launched at the Bluewater Glow centre when James DeGale’s European title defence tops the show staged by Mick Hennessy.

Also booked on the promising bill are Lenny Daws, heavyweight hopeful Dillian Whyte and middleweight prospect Chris Eubank jnr.

■ Pro boxing comes to the Civic Hall Grays tomorrow (Thursday) night when local favourite hard-hitting ‘John Wayne’ Hibbert tops the bill against Welsh rival Leon Findlay.

Billy Wooders, Lee Martin, Shaun Hussain and Nathan Dale are matched on the undercard of promoter Carl Greaves’ show at Thurrock.
