UEL had a comfortable 3-0 victory over Oxford in this week’s fixture to extend their lead at the top of the Premier South table.

The first set saw UEL get off to a flying start and build a 6-1 lead, forcing Oxford into an early timeout to try and halt the momentum of the league leaders.

This appeared to have been successful as Oxford closed the gap to 7-5 and were looking like finally settling into the game.

However, halfway through the set UEL started to reassert their dominance, especially through new recruit Mihail Stoev, who proved to be too powerful for Oxford.

This contributed to the home side taking the set 25-14, but the following set was a much more balanced affair with both teams struggling to sustain a lead of more than two points for the most part.

UEL were still causing problems for Oxford with their powerful serves, however the away side responded with good plays of their own.

Towards the end of the set, UEL started to edge ahead and managed to gain a five-point lead at 23-18, forcinng the visitors to call another timeout to try and check the momentum that UEL were building. Unfortunately for Oxford, it didn’t have the same effect as in the first set as East London went on to win 25-21.

The atmosphere suddenly built in the final set with spectators making a lot more noise as they eagerly anticipated a UEL win.

This may have intimidated Oxford slightly who very quickly went 3-0 down in the opening few minutes.

From then on, the Oxford heads looked to have dropped with a lot more unforced errors occurring on their part and serves going into the net.

Ultimately, UEL won the third set comfortably 25-11 as they secured their seventh win of the campaign with only one game to go in the league.
