Philadelphia Eagles quarter-back Carson Wentz says it was a huge win as they sealed a 24-18 victory against Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.

The 25-year-old, who is from North Carolina, threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns during the London NFL game.

“It was a huge win,” Wentz said.

“Everyone is obviously excited heading into the bye week to get a week off, to get our minds and bodies right.

“Long flight ahead of us. We’re in London. I think everyone is pretty excited we’re going back with a win and not a loss.

“I think everyone needs a week off. This is the National Football League. Guys are getting hit, beaten up all year long.

“Fortunately ours falls right in the middle of our season, which is nice.

“That week off is huge both for people’s minds and their bodies to just really heal up, get away from the game for a couple days and everything, get your mind right so we can come back and make this run.”

Sunday’s attendance of 85,870 - a record for an NFL game in London - was dominated by Eagles fans, who became louder as the game went on and their team came alive at the end of the first half and into the second.

“It was really cool. Coming in, obviously I had no idea what to expect, when everyone was going to be cheering, what the fans were going to be cheering for and everything.

“But it was an awesome experience, awesome environment. Definitely a fun one over here.”

The six foot five inch quarter-back says it was important the Eagles remained calm after getting off to a slow start and throughout the match.

“Yeah, I mean, we moved the ball well. That’s the thing. That was the positive sign. “Obviously both turnovers on my part are things we got to clean up.

“The interception, Ramsey made a heck of a play, kind of came out of nowhere on us. That’s a good play. I have to make a better read. Then the fumble is unfortunate.

“Again, the positive sign was that we knew we were moving the ball, knew we were capable of it right away. We just built off that.”

He was pleased with his touchdown passes to Wendell Smallwood and Dallas Goedert.

“It was great. O-line got out in front, he took care of the rest.

“Everyone took care of their job. You have to love the screen passes that go big like that.”

Before adding about his pass to Goedert: “Great play call by coach. Time to set it up, rip, he made a great play after the catch.

“Got to give a lot of credit to the play call.”
