Mile End Stadium-based club looking to make it four games without a defeat this weekend

Sporting Bengal United manager Imrul Gazi is hoping his team can maintain their fine run of form when struggling Burnham Ramblers visit in the Essex Senior League this Saturday.

The Mile End Stadium club earned an excellent 2-1 win at Southend Manor last weekend to make it three games without a defeat.

Burnham are up next for Bengal and Gazi admits they owe them after the previous encounter at Leslie Field Stadium on January 14.

He said: “This Saturday we will have a very different team in terms of personnel compared to when we played them away and lost 2-0.

“Only two or three from that day are still part of the squad and again during the defeat we didn’t play badly, but we just missed so many chances in the first half.

“Burnham were clinical and took their opportunities, but I am hoping we can perform well and keep this run going.”

Goals from Shiblu Miah and Oscar Almeida Mendes earned Bengal a second consecutive win last weekend.

It was only a few months ago that Burnham were ahead of the Mile End Stadium club, but Gazi’s team have put together a brilliant run of form.

Bengal are now 10 points ahead of their league rivals and eager to extend the gap after Saturday’s return meeting.

“I am looking to continue the run, but I also expect Burnham to come here determined to do the double over us,” said Gazi. We will pay them the respect they deserve and it is a big game because it is a bottom of the table clash.

“We are at home and we are usually good there, so I hope that continues and we are in a good spell right now. The squad is settled and I am quietly confident we can get another positive result from this match.”
