Roddy Lemba’s hat-trick led lowly Barkingside to Essex Senior League success against Hamlets under the Friday night lights at Mile End Stadium.

Michael Walther’s men had succumbed to two late goals by former striker Calvin Poku to lose 2-1 against leaders Redbridge at Oakside a week earlier, but captain Lemba’s treble clinched only their second win in 13 outings.

Seventh-placed Hamlets had lost 6-1 at Great Wakering in their last outing almost two weeks earlier and fell behind five minutes before the break when Lemba opened his account.

Lemba struck again on the stroke of half time to double Barkingside’s lead, but the home side halved the deficit after the restart thanks to an own goal.

Barkingside banked the points six minutes from time, though, when Lemba netted for the third time on the night, before making way for Gareth Jones.

Victory lifted the visitors one place in the table to 16th, with high-flying FC Romania set to visit Cricklefield on Monday.

Hamlets remain seventh, but that could change before they travel to Cricklefield next weekend to take on Ilford, who entertain bottom club Hackney Wick this weekend.

Sporting Bengal are set to visit Stansted on Saturday, while Redbridge travel to Waltham Forest.

Tower Hamlets: Pellin, McCarthy, Watson, Matthews, Anthony, Jairette, Sinclair, Odedoyin, Wilson, With, Furtado. Subs: Ndure, Sumithran, Ross, Tobun, Ackie.

Barkingside: Karrer, A Clarke, Hunwicks, Bottone, Mendy, Abitogun, Kelly, Billzy, Lemba (Jones 84), Briggs (Ogboin 64), Mulholland (Santos 62). Unused subs: B Clarke, Bailey.
