THE East London Sunday League made a tentative start to its new campaign on Sunday, with just three matches in Division One heralding the start of the new season.

John Gilroy took the plaudits for Arbour Athletic, the Stepney side that so narrowly missed promotion to the Premier last season, as he scored all four goals in a 4-4 draw with newcomers Tube Lines.

East Moore looked as though they would make a winning start to the season in their clash with relegated Reama when they surged into a 3-1 lead.

But Reama powered back into the match late on, scoring twice to force another high-scoring 3-3 draw.

League newcomers White Swan and Cuckoo secured a solid 3-1 win in the remaining game, ensuring that Hackney Downs B team got their campaign off on the wrong foot.

League champions Meath United start their Premier programme this weekend, but they warmed up with an emphatic 7-2 win over Adriatiku, of Division One, in a pre-season friendly.

Danny Bradshaw netted a hat-trick for Meath, who also recorded two goals apiece from Johnny Quinn and Danny Linger.

Adriatiku scored twice late on after Meath had built up a 7-0 lead.
