Tower Hamlets 1 Ilford 2

Ilford moved up to sixth place in the Essex Senior League table with success at Mile End Stadium on Friday night.

Allan Fenn’s Foxes were playing their third match of the week, having followed last Saturday’s 6-0 success over Burnham with penalty shoot-out success over Eton Manor in the league cup on Wednesday night.

Lowly Tower Hamlets had the better of the first half, but were denied by two excellent saves and then saw Ilford take the lead just before half time when Carl Mullings found the net for the third successive match.

The visitors were awarded a penalty after the restart, but saw the spot-kick saved by the Hamlets keeper.

However, they were awarded another 10 minutes later and Joe Killingback made no mistake to double the lead.

Hamlets hit back late on when Rahim Adama Bamba pounced on a loose ball in the box, when a long-range effort was spilled, but Ade Abayomi’s men could not avoid falling to a third successive loss.

A fourth straight win sees Ilford just two points behind fourth-placed Takeley, with one game in hand, and they are set to host Tower Hamlets in a quick return meeting at Cricklefield Stadium on Wednesday.
